Seton Bachle, PhD

Plant Ecophysiologist

Serving the Scientific community is an important part of what makes it all work, learning knew skills and appreciating the peer-review process is a skill that all new scientists should know. I'm excited to announce that I will be serving on the Reviewing Editor Board for the Journal: Applications in Plant Science. Here, I will gain experience in how to find reviewers, synthesize reviews, and be involved in the decision process.

ACADEMIC SERVICE

Connecting with the public is an important part of science, more specifically it's a necessity. Public interactions that concern science and research allows people to ask questions, and become more comfortable with scientists. Selfishly, this makes scientists more effective communicators. Programs like the Sunset Zoo Fellowship, G.R.O.W , and Letters to Pre-Scientists , give people a better understanding of what we (scientists) actually do. As a part of a fellowship with the Sunset Zoo in Manhattan KS. It provides a great opportunity for me and many other scientists to discuss plant ecology and biology with a broader audience. (Girls Researching Our World) is a great opportunity to teach students how awesome science can be! (These students are learning how difficult it is for tall plants like trees to move water up to great heights). The mission of Letters to a Pre-Scientist is to demystify STEM careers and empower all students to see themselves as future scientists by creating personal connections between students from high-poverty schools and real scientists.
